Summary

Why leave Nice for just one day?

Nice is magnificent. But after a few days between the Promenade des Anglais, Old Nice and the beaches, the desire for a more authentic getaway often arises.

Less than 30 km from the centre, the Alpes-Maritimes hide landscapes and experiences that few tourists discover: perched villages, centuries-old olive trees, and a unique artisanal vineyard.

Saint-Jeannet and its Domaine des Hautes Collines, This is exactly the kind of outing that transforms an ordinary stay into an unforgettable memory.

Saint-Jeannet: the village perched above Nice

Saint-Jeannet is a Provençal village perched about twenty kilometers from Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes. Its stepped alleyways, its stone houses with colorful facades and its small squares shaded by century-old plane trees offer an exceptional setting between the mountains and the Mediterranean.

The village is dominated by the Baou de Saint-Jeannet, an imposing limestone cliff that rises to 800 meters in altitude. An internationally renowned climbing site, the Baou offers a 360° panorama from its summit: from the alpine peaks of the Mercantour to the Lérins Islands and the Estérel massif.

A few good places to visit round out the day: village restaurants, a local cheese shop, and an artisanal chocolatier. Saint-Jeannet can be explored on foot, at a leisurely pace, in half a day.

The vineyard: a unique experience 20 minutes from Nice

At the foot of the Baou, on the heights of Saint-Jeannet, the Domaine des Hautes Collines is a rare address.

This is where Georges Rasse planted his first vines in 2000. Today, with his son Mathias, they perpetuate artisanal know-how on this unique terroir, between the sea and the mountains. The vines are cultivated using organic farming methods. 300-400 meters altitude, They benefit from an exceptional microclimate: optimal sunshine, cool nights, and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

What makes this domain truly unique:

  • 9 artisanal wines : reds, whites, rosés and sweet wines, each a reflection of the terroir
  • A ancestral technique natural stabilization of wine in the sun, in glass demijohns exposed on the terrace, an old tradition of Saint-Jeannet
  • Wines IGP Alpes-Maritimes, all certified organic. The Blanc Tuilé, the Rosé Tuilé and the Pressoir Romain Rouge are in addition to the natural wines (without sulfites or added ingredients)

Among the iconic vintages: the Roman Wine Press (red), the Prestige White, THE Saint-Jeannet tile with Madeira aromas, and the Late Harvest, a rich, soft cake with notes of honey and candied apricot.
